This policy explains, in plain language, what information whatcal collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We try to collect as little as possible and to be honest about the rest.

What we collect

To provide the service, we handle:

  • Account information: your name, email address, preferred language, timezone, and subscription status.
  • Meal data you send: photos, text descriptions, the estimated calorie range and macros, timestamps, and the messaging platform a meal came from.
  • Connection details: which chat platforms (Telegram, Discord, WhatsApp) you've linked.
  • Basic usage analytics: anonymous, aggregate information about how the site is used.

How we use it

We use your data to estimate calories and macros, save your diary, power your dashboard and progress views, operate your subscription, and improve the quality of estimates. We do not use your meal photos to build a public profile of you, and we do not show your data to other users.

Who processes your data

whatcal relies on a small number of trusted service providers to operate. These may process your data only to provide their service to us:

  • Google (Gemini): analyzes meal photos and text to estimate food, calories and macros.
  • Messaging platforms (Telegram, Discord, WhatsApp): deliver the messages you send to and from the bot, under their own privacy policies.
  • Dodo Payments: processes subscription payments. We do not store your full card details.
  • Google Analytics: provides aggregate usage statistics.
  • PostHog: provides product analytics and session insights so we can understand how the product is used and improve it.

What we never do

Some things we will not do with your data:

  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • We have no public feed, public profiles or social comparison.
  • We do not share your meals with other users.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data for as long as your account is active so your diary and history stay intact. You can delete your meals at any time, and you can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us. We honor reasonable deletion requests promptly.
